This is Fuji view fields in the Owari Province (Bishu Fujimigahara) by Katsushika Hokusai from his 36 Views Mount Fuji series completed in 1833 in Japan. Hokusai (1760–1849) was well into his seventies when he completed all of the Ukiyo-e woodblock prints in 1833. After the success of the first 36 prints, an additional 10 compositions were added.
Description: Number 10 of 46
This is another classic picture from the series.
The main element in this composition in the centre is a round bottomless tub. In the tub, there is a workman (cooper) caulking the inside to make it waterproof while his tools lay around him.
Seen through the circular outline of the tub are the rectangular rice paddies on the plain, behind which, Mount Fuji peeks out from the trees on the horizon.
The scene contrasts the various geometric shapes of the round tub, rectangular fields, and triangular Mount Fuji. To order an oil reproduction of this painting, please select a size below and press the "Add to Cart" button.
