This is picture number 118 of 118, (Hilltop View, Yushima Tenjin Shrine) from Utagawa (Ando) Hiroshige's series - One Hundred Famous views of Edo
Description A fine snow scene looking down on Shinobazu Pond from the precincts of the Yushima Tenjin Shrine.
On the left is the torii on the Yushima shrine. The two buildings on the left and right are colored Red indicative of belonging to the shrine. Visitors to the shrine can approach either from the main steps in front or from a smaller set of steps just appearing in the picture at the bottom right.
On the island in the middle of the pond we can see part of a Benten shrine.
This snow scene is unusual in so far as it does not show snow falling as in the other snow scenes produced by Hiroshige.
Part of the Autumn group of pictures.
